03201 Accounting I (H)
The principles of the bookkeeping cycle will be covered in this honors course. Accounting for sole proprietorships, adjusting, and closing entries will be featured. Some time will be devoted to partnership and corporate accounting. Managerial accounting, finance, investments, economics, taxation, and related topics will be included. Case studies, discussions, videos, group work, and other methods will be utilized to develop higher order thinking skills. Students will complete a comprehensive practice set and a simulation project. This course may be counted as the third year requirement for math.

03221 Accounting II (H)
This honors course will include a detailed review of the bookkeeping cycle and the handling of special journals and financial statements. Adjustments for bad debts, depreciation, and accruals will be covered along with accounting practices used for partnerships and corporations. Continued emphasis will be placed on student ability to analyze business situations. The completion of a practice set on corporations and an accounting simulation project will be required in this challenging course. This course may be counted as the third year requirement for math. A grade of “C” or better in Accounting I is required for enrollment.
03614 Banking I
This course will explore Banking as a career. Students will also learn about personal finance. Students need to obtain a “C” or better in this class in order to be accepted into Banking II.
03624 Banking II
Students will operate the Sovereign Bank school branch. All phases of Banking will be taught as well as valuable skills necessary for a career in banking. A grade of “C” or better in Banking I and interview process necessary for enrollment.
03634 Banking III
After successful completion of Banking II, students will be assigned to a School to Career internship at a local bank. This course provides hands on experience in a real work situation for students interested in a banking career. A grade of “B” or better in Banking II and interview process necessary for enrollment.
03774 Business Law/Business Organization
Part One is an introduction to our legal system and the courts. Constitutional and ethical issues will be given special attention. Crimes, torts, contracts, and related topics that have an impact on business and the consumer will be covered. Methods such as discussions, case studies, cooperative learning, and student presentations will be used in this course which is designed to benefit both career and college-bound students. Part Two is an introduction to the risks and rewards of operating a sole proprietorship, a partnership, or a corporation. The typical business activities of production, marketing, and finance will be covered. The economic, social, and legal aspects of business will also be included. Students will conduct interviews with local entrepreneurs, research national companies, or create marketing plans. Group work, discussions, videos, case studies, guest speakers, and student presentations will enhance knowledge of business principles and leadership skills.
03813 Business Mathematics
This course is designed to give students a solid background in personal and business use of mathematics. Topics covered include savings and investments, home ownership, travel and transportation, taxes, and problems arising in various types of business enterprises.

This course is designed to give students actual experience in an office setting. Students will assist office personnel in the performance of light clerical duties.

This course is designed to develop computer literacy by teaching students the basic components and operation of computers through the use of word processing software. Students will develop the touch method of operating a computer keyboard. Emphasis is placed on formatting skills for producing letters, reports, and tables. The ability to keyboard accurately at reasonable speeds is the goal. The objective of this course is to provide the student with a marketable skill.
03412 Computer Keyboarding II
This course is a continuation of Computer Keyboarding I. A review of the keyboard followed by emphasis on increased speed and document production is stressed. Word processing software is used to provide further experience in formatting business correspondence, reports, and other types of document production. Developing the ability to apply related knowledge to practical applications is a goal. The objective of this course is to provide the student with a marketable skill.

Students will work as a team to design, maintain, and upgrade Durfee’s webpage. Students must have an interest and familiarity in Web Page design. Approval of Department Head is required to enroll in this course.
03704 Introduction to Business
This course is designed to make students competent and efficient in managing their own personal and business affairs. Areas covered include maintaining a checking account, loans and mortgages, planning savings and investments, the business of credit, sensible money management, being a wise consumer, and career planning and the study of occupations. This course is intended for personal use and also as a background for students planning to take future business courses.
03714 Office Practice/Office Machines
This course is designed for students who are planning to continue their education in secretarial science or go directly to work following graduation. Emphasis is on filing, preparation of payrolls, communication skills, and proper operation of business machines and equipment. This course may include student participation in School-to-Career Internships.

This course is designed for college-bound students or for students who plan to use keyboarding for their personal or academic work. Word processing software will be used to teach the touch method of operating a computer keyboard and developing computer literacy. Retailing I is an introductory course that covers such areas as cash register operation, proof of cash, deposits, cash register maintenance, Microsoft Word, job applications, resumes, data sheets, job hunting, and follow-up.

This section of retailing will cover areas such as display, basic advertising, merchandising mathematics, physical distribution, cashier operations, and retail selling fundamentals.

This course will cover areas such as store design, store image, creating displays, inventory control, making a profit, building public relations, and other related retailing functions.
03304 Secretarial Procedures
This course is an independent study program designed to provide the student with on-the-job experience within a school setting. Students will be assigned to work in offices under the supervision of trained secretarial personnel. Some duties might include typing, filing, reprographics, communication skills, and data entry.

Students learn basic HTML editing and advance to Macromedia Studio MX 2004 to learn the necessary skills for producing personal and business web pages. Knowledge of Windows operating systems and its use of folders and menus are necessary.

This course promotes a further understanding of the Physical, Social, Emotional, and Intellectual Development of the preschool age child Students demonstrate the development of basic skills in the on site laboratory preschool. Students will be required to have a uniform as determined by the instructor.
02434 Child Care III
This course promotes a further understanding of the Physical, Social, Emotional, and Intellectual Development of the child from Birth to age 5. Affiliations at community Child Care centers enable the student to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom. Students will create lesson plans, a professional portfolio and a final project that will apply research skills and technology. This one semester course is based on a curriculum of intermediate art that focuses on graphic design principles in a computer environment. Introduction to industry standard computer applications will be focused on to complete projects in desktop publishing, website design and development, 3D modeling and animation, in conjunction with illustration and painting.

The Commercial Art & Design course of study is based on a curriculum of intermediate and advanced art with a concentration in Computer Graphic Design. Students will learn computer layout, 3D modeling and animation, and website production using industry standard software. In conjunction with computer methods traditional skills will be covered such as drawing, painting, illustration, and mural painting. The proper use of digital cameras, computer scanners, and printers will also be taught.

Students will learn safety along with the essential skills of appliance repair; acquire more in-depth skills in basic electricity, electrical meters, and repair procedures.

This classroom component covers basic knowledge of the health care system and the role of the Nursing Assistant. Some hands on activities are conducted in the nursing lab. Upon completion of this course, students are evaluated and interviewed in order to select candidates for the Nursing Assistant II course.

This course prepares students for clinical affiliation in Long Term Care facilities through the successful completion of Nurse Assistant competencies. Unisex Hairstyling is complete course of study that prepares males and females to become licensed cosmetologists. The students receive theory and training in all facets of hair, skin and nails. This is a comprehensive living skills course that will provide students with the basic information needed to balance home and work. Students will develop a range of skills related to personal development, interpersonal relationships, food and nutrition, clothing care and sewing skills. Students divide their class time between the classroom foods lab and the sewing lab.
54114 Family and Consumer Science II
This is a comprehensive course that expands on the basic living skills developed in Family & Consumer Science I. Topics include: food purchasing and meal preparation, clothing purchasing and construction, parenting and child growth and development. In this course, students also participate in the “Baby Think It Over” program. Students divide their time between the classroom, foods lab and sewing lab.
54124 Family and Consumer Science III
This is a comprehensive course that continues the skills from FACS I and II to prepare young adults for independent living. Topics include: money management, healthful eating, food preparation, choosing a career and caring for a home, sewing techniques, challenges of family life and career planning. Students divide their time between the classroom, foods lab and sewing lab.

08104 ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY I
An introductory course in electricity, students will be introduced to shop safety and the basic use of hand tools. Static and dynamic electricity are investigated. Sources of energy including fossil, renewable and emerging sources will be identified. Basic circuits will be developed and constructed. The efficient use of electricity will be studied.
08114 ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY II
This course gives students an introduction to residential electrical technologies. The students progress from identification of electrical components to the construction of circuits. Electrical principles and practices are explained on the National Electrical Code.
08124 ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY III
The technologies developed and learned in Electricity II are expanded upon. Advanced and comprehensive circuitries are created. Hands on applications of these circuits are then developed. Individual and team projects are developed.
08614 ELECTRONICS and TELECOMMUNICATIONS
This course provides an introductory experience in the field of electronics and telecommunications. A hands-on approach utilizing LEDs, resistors and capacitors will be used to develop circuits. Identification of basic components of telecommunications will be given. Students will use the design process and problem solving techniques to complete engineering challenges.

This course offers an exploratory experience designed to give students insight into the major areas of woodworking. Students will develop basic technical skills, learn design concepts, woodworking methods and basic construction principles.

In this course, students will use their knowledge from Wood I to design and construct class projects. Concepts used will be design, power tools, model making, construction basics and reading scale drawings. Students will construct a scale house model.
