57394 FRESHMAN HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION
(meets 5 x per week) ( Incoming Grade 9 students only )
In this course, students will learn to integrate the concepts of fitness, weight control, cardiovascular endurance and strength training with leisure, recreation and lifestyle activities.

57204 PHYSICAL EDUCATION & SOPHOMORE HEALTH ISSUES
(meets 5 x per week) ( Grade 10 only )
This course is required for all sophomores and is designed to provide basic health and physical education concepts necessary for the achievement of optimal health. Students will have the opportunity to select basic and intermediate skill units in individual and team sports. Students will also be required to participate in wellness center activities. Contemporary issues in health will include physical health, mental health, contagious diseases, growth and development, sexuality, consumer and environmental health, alcohol and drug education. 57234 HEALTH ISSUES in LIFE MANAGEMENT
Grades 11-12

This five credit course will address health issues adolescents currently face as well as those they will begin to experience as they enter later adolescence. Information accessing, decision-making, self-management, and advocacy skills will be incorporated in the course. Topics will include weight management programs and nutritional supplements, stress and anger management, conflict development and resolutions, consumer health and resource management, and mental illness.
Note: This course will satisfy the Junior/Senior Physical Education Requirement.

57384 PHYSICAL EDUCATION
(2.5 credits/ 3 x per cycle) (Grade 11 & 12)

Students will have the opportunity to select basic and intermediate skill units in individual and team sports. Individual elective programs will include aerobics, dance, pool games, swimming, water aerobics, weight training, archery, basic and advanced Project Adventure.
* Students can request this course ONLY ONCE per year.
* Students DO NOT need to request this sport if they are participating in an interscholastic sport. Participation in the sport will count as the PE requirement for Juniors and Seniors.

57334 PHYS. ED. – ADAPTIVE/SPECIAL NEEDS
(2.5 credits/ 3 x per cycle) (Grades 9-12)

This course is offered for students who have a physical disability, making it difficult for them to be successful in the regular physical education program. The needs of the students will be met through an individualized program that includes exercises and activities designed to improve gross motor development and recreation games, adapted to that the student can experience success and enjoyment. Students return to their regular Special Needs program after Phys. Ed.

57364 CPR/FIRST AID
(2.5 credits/3 x per cycle) (Grades 11 - 12)

This course will provide Juniors and Seniors the opportunity to become certified in CPR and First Aid and in the use of Automated External Defibrillators.
Note : This course will satisfy the Junior or Senior Physical Education Requirement.

57374 CPR/FIRST AID/LIFEGUARD TRAINING
(2.5 credits/3 x per cycle) (Grades 11 – 12)

This semester course enables junior and senior students the opportunity to receive certification in CPR and First Aid and meet the requirements of Lifeguard Training required for all surf and non surf lifeguards. Students will also learn to be proficient in the use of Automated External Defibrillators. Students must be at least 15 years old and be proficient swimmers.
Note : This course will satisfy the Junior or Senior Physical Education Requirement.

57101 HONORS HUMAN ANATOMY and SPORTS MEDICINE
(meets 5 x per week) (Grades 11 - 12)

This course is designed to instruct students in human and functional anatomy as well as in the basic concepts of sports medicine. The intent of the program is to prepare students for the future course work necessary in the following academic areas: physical therapy, athletic training and sports medicine, physical education and related health and science careers.
