Art Club: Membership in the Art Club is open to all students of Durfee High School , especially those who want to broaden their knowledge of the Arts. Meeting are held monthly. The club is also involved in fund raisers and trips. Asian Club: The purpose of the club is to develop the student’s knowledge of Khmer Culture and language. Activities include a Khmer New Year’s Celebration and other culturally significant events during the school year. Astronomy Club: Membership is open to all students with an interest in astronomy, particularly those who would like to expand their knowledge about current happenings. Meetings are held monthly. Business Club: The Business Club offers high school students an opportunity to explore many career opportunities in the business sector. Students will gain first hand experience in manufacturing service sector and hospitality management. Class Officers Cosmetology Club: Membership is open to sophomore, junior, and senior cosmetology students. Activities include attendance at several Beauty shows, the International Dermal Institute, competitions, volunteer work for community service, and the International Beauty Show in New York . Meetings are held bimonthly or when needed. Dance Team: Membership is open to all students interested in dancing. Fashion Club : The Fashion Club will explore the business aspects of fashion industry, learning how buying and marketing decisions are made. The students will take part in various community service projects and the organization of the "Senior Fashion Show" Membership is open to all students interested in fashion. French Club: Membership is open to all students who have taken or are currently taking French. The club's purpose is to increase the student's knowledge of French culture and language. Activities include visits to mansions, museums, plays, and other special events Future Educators of America Club: Membership is open to all students who are interested in pursuing a career in teaching. The club is a charter member of the Future Educators of America (FEA). Club activities include participation in the annual FEA Conference, fundraising activities, teacher shadowing, and the annual Teacher Academy Showcase Day held at the end of the school year. Meetings are held on the first Monday of every month. Gay/Straight Alliance: The Durfee High School Gay/Straight Alliance is a group of students including lesbian, gay, straight, bisexual, trangendered, and those who may be questioning their identity, who meet once a week to help support each other and to discuss pertinent issues. You do not have to identify as any of the above to be a member. Hip-Hop Club : This club meets every other week and is open to all students interested in today’s hip-hop culture. The club incorporates all four elements of hip-hop (MCing, DJing, B-Boying, and Graffiti Art). Our members focus mostly on hip-hop dance styles. Interested students must be open-minded and must willingly embrace diversity. Mathematics Team: Membership is open to all students, especially to those who enjoy a challenge in mathematics. As members of the Southeastern Massachusetts Mathematics League, members must compete in four math meets each year. Practice sessions are held after school one day a week. Portuguese Club: Membership is open to all students who are taking or have taken Portuguese class. The club's purpose is to increase the student's knowledge of the Portuguese language and culture. Meetings are held monthly. Science Club: Membership is open to all students sufficiently motivated to participate in the club's activities of research, affiliation in the established projects, such as ECC, and publication of a monthly Science Scene. Activities include seminars, lectures, and field trips. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. Shakespeare Festival Committee: Membership is open to all students. The club's purpose is to provide leadership and organizational opportunities in planning and producing a Spring Shakespeare Festival. The Committee meets on the third Monday of the month. Ski and Snowboard Club: Membership is open to all students regardless of previous skiing/snowboarding experience. The purpose of the club is to provide the opportunity for students to learn and participate in the sport of skiing and snowboarding. The club meets once a month starting in September. Each year the club plans six, one day trips to different destinations in New England . All trips take place on Sundays Spanish Club: Membership is open to all students who are taking or who have taken Spanish and are interested in Spanish culture. Activities include attending performances of Spanish plays and dance and dinner at a Spanish or Mexican restaurant. Meetings are held monthly. United Cultures Club: Membership is open to all students with an interest in promoting multi-cultural awareness and cultural diversity. The goal is to bring awareness to both the student body and the community through involvement in a Teen Topics Panel, Bristol Community College , StudentsAlliance against Racism and Violence, cultural celebrations, and field trips. Meetings are held monthly. Video Club: Membership is open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors who wish to learn T. V. production skills Members of the club will assist in the production of the video yearbook. Special contests will be available. |
