Hire a Teen, Brighten the Future

Job Campaign

The Bristol Workforce Investment Board (WIB), in partnership with the Fall River Career Center, B.M.C Durfee High School, and the Fall River Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry are partnering to identify local summer employment opportunities for Fall River area teens.

Fall River’s “Hire-A-Teen, Brighten the Future” Job Campaign is a collaborative effort to match enthusiastic, work-ready teens to job openings provided by employers. This campaign benefits area youth by providing meaningful work experiences to gain valuable and marketable skills, such as communication, work ethic, teamwork and leadership. Additionally, job experience provides awareness of career options and opportunities, helping to build a stable future workforce.  Participating employers have an opportunity to shape their future workforce, create better prepared workers, and reduce time consuming recruiting, hiring and training efforts.

During the campaign, employers will be contacted through various methods, to communicate the benefit of youth employment to the employer, youth and the community. Employers will be asked to consider pledging a summer or part-time job that could be filled by an area teen. All participating youth will receive work readiness preparation by Durfee High School staff, to ensure all youth are work-ready at the time they interview with an employer.

The campaign will culminate with the “Hire a Teen, Brighten the Future” Job-a-Thon to be held on May 6th from 1pm-4pm, hosted at Fall River Ford. Business and community leaders will volunteer to call upon employers to pledge youth job opportunities. Volunteers will also be accepting tax-deductible donations to help subsidize youth wages in summer community service jobs.

Employers that are interested in recruiting high school students to meet their staffing needs should contact the Bristol Workforce Investment Board (508) 675-1165.  Area youth (aged 16 and above) interested in employment can visit the Fall River Career Center, at 446 North Main Street.

If you are a Chamber member who would like to volunteer for the Job-a-thon, please call the Bristol WIB at 508-675-1165.

The Bristol Workforce Investment Board is one of 16 workforce boards throughout Massachusetts, charged with oversight and implementation of workforce development initiatives in the Greater Fall River, Attleboro and Taunton areas.
