Alex Fiola Surpasses 1,000 Points

Alex FiolaSenior Alex Fiola became the fourth female player in Durfee history to surpass the 1,000 career point plateau in the Hilltoppers' easy 51-26 season-opening victory over Bishop Stang on Tuesday, December 11, 2007.

Fiola, who recently signed a letter of intent to play ball at defending Division 2 national champion Southern Connecticut State University, entered the contest needing nine points to reach the milestone. The 1,000th point came when she buried the first of two free throws early in the second half. She finished with 13 points for the game.

Alex is the daughter of Durfee Athletic Hall of Famer, Ken Fiola, who was also a 1,000 point scorer. He led the Hilltoppers to an undefeated state championship in 1977. The other Durfee females to accomplish the feat were Sheila Freitas, Rochelle Lavoie and Bethany Plasski.
