Advisory Council
About the Durfee Parent Advisory Council:
The Durfee Parent Advisory Council, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering parental awareness of Durfee issues and provides a forum for addressing issues that parents and guardians feel are important in the educational process.
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month in the Tradewinds Restaurant (the Weetamoe St. entrance to Durfee) at 7:00pm. (The Durfee Sports Boosters meet just prior to the Council meeting at 6:15pm.) Free pizza and coffee are served at every meeting (generously donated by Domino's Pizza and New York Bagel).
Everyone is invited to attend these meetings and become members of the Council, however, only parents and guardians of current Durfee students are eligible for voting priviledges. There is a $5.00 membership fee for anyone wishing to be a certified "member" of the council.
Meetings are planned and conducted by elected officers from the ranks of the Council membership and, whenever possible, are attended by the principal. There are Committee updates presented at each meeting. Committees include: After-Prom, Fundraising, PRIDE, and Al Attar Scholarship Committees. Please consider stopping in at one of our meetings and leanring what the Council is all about. It's a great way to lean about what is happening at Durfee!
The Durfee Parent Advisory Council meets as a whole group the first Wednesday of each month. The council has a few subcommittees.

Current Events:
The Durfee PRIDE Committee - The committee meets a few times a year to discuss what issues are important to parents and need to be addressed to the Principal, Superintendent or School Committee. Some of the issues addresses over the past couple of years include lack of open bathrooms for students, the overall cleanliness of the building, and teacher absenteeism.
The Al Attar Scholarship Committee - Currently a $200 scholarship is given to a graduating Senior. We would like to increase the scholarship to $500. This committee meets to raise funds for this scholarship. Eventually we would like to see it become a perpetual scholarship.
The Fundraising Committee - This committee raises funds solely for the After Prom Party. This past year we held a successful Brunch at the Tradewinds Restaurant.
The After Prom Committee - This committee meets monthly to discuss the entertainment and activities to be offered at the After Prom Party. Committee members also seek volunteers for the night of the event, make phone calls for food donations and coordinate the students checking in and out of the Party. This past year's event was very successful, with over 670 students attending. Almost 600 stayed until the end when a prize drawing for a car was held. Some activities included a casino, miniature golf, laser tag, a fortune teller, sumo wrestling and temporary tattoos. The entertainment included hypnotist and a magician.
