In a game highlighted by senior Alex Fiola surpassing the 1,000 career point plateau, the Lady Hilltoppers opened the season by cruising to an easy victory over Bishop Stang. Fiola, who became the fourth female player in Durfee history to reach the milestone, needed nine points entering the contest and notched No. 1000 with a free throw early in the second half. She finished with 13 points.

The game also marked the return of Julie Plasski, who had missed all of last year after suffering a knee injury during soccer season. The junior finished with 10 points, as did sophomores Lauren Fiola and Toni Fenn.

The Lady Hilltoppers improved to 2-0 on the year with this one-sided victory over the Tigers. Using a ball-hawking defense that produced 29 turnovers, Durfee built a 12-point halftime lead and pulled away after the break.

It was a big scoring night for both the Fiola sisters. Alex, a senior, buried five 3-pointers enroute to a game-high 29 points, while Lauren, a sophomore, contributed with 18, including 15 in the second half. Julie Plasski added 12 points for Durfee.

The Lady Hilltoppers tasted defeat for the first time in this setback to Somerset. Durfee fell behind by nine points after one quarter but came back and trailed by just one heding into the final frame. The Blue Raiders pulled away from there though, out-scoring the Toppers 21-10 in the final quarter. Alex Fiola led the way offensive for Durfee, scoring 17 points, while younger sister Lauren added 10.

The Lady Hilltoppers brought a halt to their three-game losing streak with this impressive win. An strong second quarter enabled Durfee to open a 14-point lead at halftime. The Toppers pushed that margin to 24 points late in the third quarter and then thwarted a brief comback bid by the Blue Bombardiers.

Sophomores Kate McDonald and Lauren Fiola led the way for the Toppers, scoring 16 points each. Senior Alex Fiola added 13 points to the cause.

With their shots not falling in crunch time, the Lady Hilltoppers, who were missing a couple of key performers, dropped this tough decision to the Indians. Durfee took a one-point lead with just over four minutes left but didn't score again. Alex Fiola paced the scoring attack with 20 points.

With the loss, the Toppers fall below the .500 level and need to win three of their remaining five games to qualify for the post-season state tournament.
