Traveling Sea Lab
This standards based course involves students visiting area elementary schools and giving presentations relating to the knowledge attained through course content from Marine Science and Aquaculture. Area elementary schools classes are also invited to Durfee to observe and learn about local salt water organisms. Live marine animals are cared for and reared in the Aquaculture Labs at Durfee by the Durfee Marine Science and Aquaculture students. On special occasions the marine animals are transported to the Fall River elementary schools, where Durfee students share their expertise with marine science with the elementary students.
The elementary school students find the experience extremely enlightening and follow up the visit with individual letters and drawings addressed to the Traveling Sea Lab students.
