Principal's Message
Dear Durfee High School Community:
B.M.C. Durfee High School is off to an outstanding 2007-2008 school year, where the focus is on improving learning for all our students. The new seven period rotating schedule has produced lower class sizes and the opportunity for inclusion students to have two mainstream content teachers presenting lessons. Special Education staff are monitoring the implementation of modifications in each class.
Thirty new teachers, who have been recruited since January 2007, were exposed to an instructive three day orientation. Administrators and department heads report active, engaged classroom instruction. Disciplinary issues have been reduced by more than 50% during the first week of school.
Associate Principal, Omari Walker, has expanded alternative programs and made numerous qualitative personnel changes. Numerous workshop opportunities for teachers and spirited unifying retreats for students have provided a positive momentum for the alternative program.
Our outstanding new athletic complex was re-dedicated on September 14, 2007. Student athletes and supporters will benefit extremely from this marvelous facility.
These are truly positive times for B.M.C. Durfee High School.
Sincerely,
Ralph Olsen
Principal
