Durfee Bells
The work of refurbishing the Durfee Bells has been completed and a new bell to replace the one that was stolen has been designed and cast. The next phase of the project is to construct a tower at Durfee High School to support the bells. The tower will be 15 feet square at its base and will stand over 40 feet tall. The bells will hang from a frame located on the second level, behind a decorative railing about 16 feet off the ground. The big tenor bell will be free swinging on its own platform above the rest of the bells. The first level will be finished in a combination of granite and steel. Currently, the project is approximately $50,000 short of the amount needed to enable the City of Fall River to build the tower. For this final push, your help is needed. The goal is to finish this job in time to hear the bells ring at homecoming next fall. |
